Police try to shut down National Conservatism event in Belgium

Police in Brussels tried to shut down an international conference of right-wing conservatives on Tuesday while Nigel Farage was speaking from its stage. Legal documents seen by The Times ordered the closure of the National Conservatism event with “immediate effect” on the grounds that the opinions of Farage, or Suella Braverman, another speaker, could lead to public disorder.

Farage, the honorary president of the populist Reform UK party, said that police would have to drag him from the stage to silence him, but officers did not enter the conference building to remove speakers or participants.
