Heavy Rains Return to Dubai, Flights Cancelled, Citizens Asked to Stay Home

Heavy rains return to the United Arab Emirates days after deadly floods brought parts of the country to a standstill. The authorities cancelled flights in and out of Dubai, while students & workers were asked to study and work from home. The Dubai authorities also sent emergency notifications to the citizens on mobile phones asking them to stay home. Dubai has received 20 millimetres of rain in 12 hours, which is more than twice the rainfall the city receives in April and May. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi received 34 millimetres of rain in 24 hours, more than four times what it would usually get over April and May. The meteorological department has said that the unstable weather is likely to affect parts of the UAE for two days.
