Saint Gertrdue of Helfta, also known as Gertrude the Great is recognized as a Saint by the Catholic and Episcopal Church. Few men have merited the title, “the Great”; fewer women. St. Gertrude of Helfta is one of them. She was a Virgin, Mystic, and Benedictine Abbess, was called by Our Lord Himself, "My chosen Lily". Although nothing much is known of this German woman’s family background, it is widely accepted that she was entrusted to the sisters of Helfta Abbey to be educated when five years old.
