FRANK MARTIN (USA) vs JERRY PEREZ (USA) - MY THOUGHTS!

So guys we can see that Frank Martin is very methodical in his approach to boxing. He isn't wild, uses good technique, and appears extremely efficient with his punch selection.

He's exceptionally good at circling to his right while using the jab against orthodox opponents. With his footwork he accelerates and stays close to the ground to cover the distance effectively...

On his approach he is very adept with his jab - so he doesn't overload on his lead hand and keeps good form so he can bring in his backhand when he sees the opportunity to do so.

Now guys lets talk about Frank Martin and the WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis because Davis is a Southpaw

So going into this fight the last time when Frank Martin fought against a Southpaw opponent was against a guy named Kendrick Latchman... not Kendrick Lamar don't get confused guys... I said Kendrick Latchman.

At the time Latchman's record was 1 W and 6 L when Martin was 4 - 0. This was one of Martin's early career tune-up fights so we can't really look at this and derive any substance from this fight.

I'm certain that the sparring partners Martin will be using to prepare for Gervonta are much faster and much more skilled than Latchman.

However, the fact that he has not faced a Southpaw in the last 5 to 6 years does place Gervonta at a slight tactical advantage.

Davis has fought 2 Southpaws in the time Martin has fought 1, but Davis' second Southpaw was quite recent in 2023 against Hector Garcia and he had a record of 16 - 0.

So there would have been a few specific Southpaw to Southpaw plays Davis had to prepare for that would give him the advantage in this match-up.

So moving to the left more often, the backhand counter over the lead hand and controlling the opponent's lead hand with the backhand.

So it would be interesting to see who Martin uses as sparring partners to prepare for Davis.
