Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner, president of the German Environment Agency (UBA), is a renowned expert in the fields of globalization, sustainability, decarbonization and digitalization.
In his talk, he outlines the role that digitalization has played in climate protection to date (namely a very small one) and how this will change in the future. He draws attention to the ubiquity of digital technologies, which are no longer limited to one sector. Messner calls for a paradigm shift to a new generation of sustainability and paints a picture of a new humanism in the digital age. Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner is a renowned expert in the fields of globalization, sustainability, decarbonization and digitization. Since January 2020 he is the President of the German Environment Agency (UBA). Recently he was director of the Institute for Environment and Human Security at the United Nations University (UNU-EHS)and Co-Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU) for the German government. For fifteen years he headed the German Development Institute (DIE), one of the world's leading research institutes on global development issues. Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner is of the opinion that mankind must shape digitization in order to ensure that environmental and climate protection receive worldwide attention.
