EWA MATAYA vs LOREE JON JONES - 1992 U.S. OPEN STRAIGHT POOL CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN'S FINALS

Ewa Mataya takes on Loree Jon Jones in the finals of the 1992 Women’s US Open 14.1 Championship at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on August 23, 1992.

At the age of 15, Jones won the WPBA World Straight Pool Championship in 1981, becoming the youngest player to win a World Championship. She would go on to win over 50 major titles and was inducted into both the BCA and WPBA Hall of Fames.

Mataya, nicknamed “The Striking Viking” moved to the USA in 1981 from Sweden, where she was already a European 14.1 Champion and she would win over 20 major titles in her career. She was also inducted into both the BCA and WPBA Hall of Fames.

Jones was the defending champion of this event, but had lost to Mataya earlier in the event. This was one game to 100 points.

Grady Mathews was joined by Fran Crimi and Mary Kenniston, as well as a handful of other WPBA stars, in the commentary booth.
