Living in Finland Vlog #7
In this Vlog we will go on a Shopping trip to Finnish Supermarket Prisma. Grocery Haul from the local grocery store with Price (tax included).
Also Cooking Finnish Lihapiirakka, a kind of deepfried hand pie filled with mince, rice, onion and spices. Very simple recipe and I will share it written further down.

Recipe Lihapiirakka

The Dough

25g Fresh Yeast
5 dl Milk (heated to 35-37 degrees C)
75 g Butter (melted)
2 tsp Salt
2 tbsp Sugar
2 Eggs
5 dl Spelt Flour
8-9 dl Wheat Flour

The Filling

700 g Mince
1 Onion
1,5 dl Short Grain Rice
3 dl water
1 cube Beef Buillion
1 tbsp Marjoram
Salt
Pepper

Start with the Dough
1. Pour milk (35-37 degrees C) into a bowl.
2. Add the fresh yeast to the milk in small crumbs. Let it dissolve.
3. Add sugar, eggs and salt. Mix.
4. Add the melted butter and flours.
5. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes and let it rest until double size.

While the dough is resting, start with the filling.

6. Fry the mince.
7. Wash the rice and chop the onion.
8. Add the washed rice, chopped onion, water, buillion cube and spices to the mince.
9. Let cook until the rice is done and most of the water is gone.

When the dough is ready

10. Add oil to a pot or a deep pan.
11. Split the dough in 16 pieces.
12. Roll every piece into a ball and then take a rolling pin to flatten them out to circles.
13. Add about 2 tbsp of filling, fold over and pinch together the edges.
14. Fry in the oil on both sides.
Can easily be made in bigger amounts to store in fridge in freezer. I think they reheat best in the oven or in an air fryer.
