Ziggy Marley Reminisces About Jamaica and His Fathe‪r‬ | Broken Record (Hosted by Malcolm Gladwell)

In the four decades since his death, Bob Marley has become so iconic that it’s hard to believe he was ever a real person.

Thankfully, in addition to the wealth of music he left behind, there’s also a trove of photographs documenting his impactful life. 

In 2020, to commemorate what would’ve been Bob’s 75th birthday, Ziggy Marley curated a book of photographs of his dad called Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend. Ziggy has, of course, gone on to become a reggae icon in his own right and is now an eight-time Grammy winner, a philanthropist, author, and keeper of his dad’s legacy along with the rest of the Marley family.

Today we’ll hear Malcolm Gladwell and Ziggy talk about the turbulence in ‘70s Jamaica caused by two opposing political parties. Ziggy recalls the night gunmen ambushed the Marley house, shooting his mother and Bob—both whom thankfully survived. And Ziggy answers the question we all want to know: was the famously soccer-obsessed Bob Marley really any good on the field?
