Layout And Composition In Your Sketchbook

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

Some of you have posted questions about layout and composition, so today I want to talk about that. For this, I needed to do some research online, to understand what the elements of composition are, and if there is any difference between the terms layout and composition. I copied and pasted from all kinds of resources, to Frankenstein together today’s presentation, which also includes examples from my sketchbook archive.

I created a checklist which includes the elements of composition, and you can use the list to take a closer look at your own sketchbook pages and to analyse them. Use the checklist is not for self-critique, but to create a certain awareness about the decisions you make during the process of drawing.
