and Welcome to a Baby Shower (पूजाचे डोहाळे जेवण) Special Episode of @RedSoilStories
Baby Shower (डोहाळे जेवण) is a celebration in which all family members of a would be mother gather together to bless her in the beginning of motherhood.
Pooja's baby shower was also a family celebration and we would like to share the highlights with you all. Usually in Maharashtra baby shower ceremony is performed in the 7th month of pregnancy.
In Marathi it is called as "Dohale Jevan" which means the would be mom's cravings are fulfilled during this ceremony. Friends and family bring the food, sweets and offer it to the would be mother.
In Maharashtrian Culture woman give blessings to the mother in the form of Saree, Fruits, Coconut, Some gifts etc. We call it "Oti Bharane".
Also the mother wears flower jewelry holds a flower basket which symbolizes the baby would be beautiful as the flowers and it'll smell the flowers. The mother also holds a bow and arrow which symbolizes that the baby would be brave like a warrior. The mother also sits on a moon to represent that the baby would be bright yet cool like a moon.
A fun game is also played during the event which includes guessing the gender of the baby, though no one knows the actual gender.
Later friends and family joins the couple to get some pictures clicked.
All above rituals were performed in Pooja's baby shower and she was blessed by friends and family.
