Too young: Why Mizoram CM mistook CJI D Y Chandrachud to be someone else

Chief Justice of India, Dr. Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud inaugurated the new building of the Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court at Mizoram New Capital Complex on Saturday. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Union Minister of State of Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Sandeep Mehta.

CM Zoramthanga also shared a few light-hearted moments during his welcome speech, where he said he could not recognise the chief justice since he is too young.

“For a moment, I could not recognise the Chief Justice of India and thought that it might be his secretary because he is so young,” the CM said.

Meanwhile, the CJI expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for the completion of the new building. He also reciprocated to Zoramthanga and said that it is the yearning to work for the betterment of the nation that keeps him going. He also said that the rule of law is what sustains the nation and this new building also signifies the rule of law in the state.

The new building has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 46 crore. It comprises the main building, advocate building and visiting judge building with a total floor area of 13773.11 sqm.
