You may have seen that Guardian bikes come in two different models. The Airos premium line and the more budget friendly Ethos line. What’s the difference and which one do you need?
These bikes are very similar. They both feature Guardian’s Sure Stop braking system and most of the same components from drivetrain to tires.
The primary difference is that the Ethos 24 has a steel frame and the Airos 24 has an aluminum frame. As a result, the Airos is a few pounds lighter. Additionally here are a few more minor differences that make the Airos a more “premium” bike:
Airos has a more advanced graphics bonding system that allows for more intricate designs.
The Airos has a more premium threadless headset vs the threaded headset on the Ethos.
The saddle on the Airos is more thickly padded
The Airos wheels’ have a higher spoke count vs the Ethos. This makes them a bit better suited for aggressive kids who will be jumping off curbs and ramps.

SureStop brakes are what first put Guardian on the map, and resulted in a trip to Shark Tank where Mark Cuban decided he was TEAM GUARDIAN!
In a nutshell, the SureStop braking system allows kids to brake faster and with more control than traditional braking systems.
With just one brake lever that sequentially engages the rear brake followed by the front brake, kids of all riding abilities feel more confident and less anxious.
SureStop also prevents kids from going over the handlebars by accidentally braking with just the front brake.

SureStop does not allow the rider to brake the front and rear brake independently. The front brake won’t engage until the rear brake does. As a result, the SureStop system is not ideal for more technical riders, such as mountain bikers or even more advanced road riders, who need the ability to use their brakes independently.

Not all kids bikes are actually a good fit for kids. Guardian bikes were designed with a laser focus on the unique proportions of kids’ smaller bodies.
The result is a 24 inch bike that is natural and easy to ride. Guardian 24 inch Ethos and Airos bikes place riders in a relatively upright position, which is preferable for most kids. This helps to center a child’s weight over the hips as well as minimizes the strain on their neck when looking forward.

The Guardian 24 inch bikes are also made with a lower center of gravity. This means that a child sits more “in” the bike, rather than “on top” of it, as is common with cheaper bikes. A low center of gravity makes a bike much easier to balance and maneuver.

Both the Guardian 24 Ethos and Airos bikes feature the same super cool Microshift 7 Speed grip shifter that helps kids to visualize when to shift up, and when to shift down.
The drivetrain components are also Microshift on both bikes, which certainly gets the job done for neighborhood riders.

The Guardian 24″ Airos weighs 23 lb. while the Ethos weighs 25.5 lb. By comparison, the popular REI Co-Op Cycles REV Plus weighs over 28 pounds, while the Schwinn Ranger weighs 30 pounds.
While there are some high-end 24 inch bikes that weigh less than Guardian, one reason the Guardian Airos 24 weighs a tad more is due to its double walled, high-spoke-count wheels. Built to withstand anything kids can throw at them, Guardian’s durable wheels are sure to stay true.

In order to ensure quality and ease of assembly, every Guardian Bike is checked, tuned, and re-packaged by Guardian’s own mechanics BEFORE they are shipped out to customers. Bikes are NEVER shipped straight from the factory to the consumer.
