UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has one of the premiere centers in the nation for Sickle Cell treatment and has been at the forefront of advancing the research for better treatments and a cure for over 45 years. A sickle cell-CRISPR gene therapy clinical trial – a partnership with UCSF, UCLA and UC Berkeley – will be the first human trial using CRISPR gene editing technology to replace mutated blood cells with edited cells – a potential cure for sickle cell.
