A New York court has overturned disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction.

The decision came down on Thursday by the New York Court of Appeals on the basis Weinstein did not receive a fair trial.

The court said the prosecution's witnesses made accusations unrelated to the charges against Weinstein.

The court of appeals stated the disgraced producer was tried unfairly for his past behaviour and has ordered a new trial.

A victims group, The Silence Breakers, labelled the decision as, “disheartening and profoundly unjust".

Lawyers for the victims also criticised the reversal as a “leap backwards” and “tragic”.
