Relax With Easy Fire: Big Leaf Method

The long version has every step from pilling twigs and leaves to my critical development, lighting the big leaf from the bottom and rolling it into the bottom of the pile where the flame travels upwards to light the whole thing. I developed this fire starting technique in the winter living in soaked Boone NC. With a small lighter, you'll burn yourself on the lighter before lighting a fire up there, and it's never enough flame. To solve that, I devised that I would instead focus my lighter on a single leaf that I can manipulate to catch its own fire, as it grows upwards. In the wet winter, this comes from a clump of leaves stuck in a tree (super bonus for my description readers!!!) This cluster will also serve well at the base of the pile, as supplies permit. Light a single big leaf, in the rain it may take several to cook the water off of your future fuel leaf litter which will then dry the sticks in your chain reaction.

This is also an example of perfect fire conditions (or terrible depending on how responsible you are). Everything is dry and ready to blow up for the shortest of attention spans :P
