I had this dilemma if I'm going to have an internal SSD or an external SSD with my 21.5 inch late 2012 iMac. I then decided to choose the cheaper option with a fast and stable computer speed. I prefer to put my OS on an external SSD to make it more portable. Having the ability to bring and use all your software and files on any mac computer is a big advantage.
