There is an ancient footsteps path to Tirumala, that starts from Alipiri known as Alipiri Metlu.
The Devotees to fulfil their Vow to Lord Venkateswara will take this path to reach Tirumala on foot from Tirupati.It consists of a total 3550 Steps which makes a distance of 12 km.


కలియుగ ప్రత్యక్ష దైవం శ్రీనివాసుని దర్శించుకోడాని తిరుమలకు కాలినడకన వెళ్లే భక్తులు ప్రవేశించే తొలి మార్గం అలిపిరి.


కొందరు దీన్ని అడిప్పడి అంటారు. అడి అంటే అడుగు లేదా కింది భాగం, పడి అంటే మెట్టు. అంటే తిరుమలకు అడుగున ఉన్న పటికట్టు ప్రదేశమని అర్థం.మరికొందరు దీన్ని ఆడిప్పళి అంటారు. దీనర్థం చింత చెట్టు. అంటే కింది భాగానా కనిపించే మొదటి ప్రదేశం. వైష్ణవ క్షేత్రాల్లో చింత చెట్టుకు చాలా ప్రాధాన్యత ఉంటుంది. ఎందుకంటే నమ్మాళ్వార్‌కు చింత చెట్టు కిందే జ్ఞానోదయమైందని పురాణాలు తెలుపుతున్నాయి.


ఇంకొందరు అలిపిరి అంటే అల్ప శరీరం కలవాడని చెబుతారు. శ్రీనివాసుడు ఈ ప్రాంతంలో సూక్ష్మ రూపంలో ఉన్నారనేది దీని భావన. అలిపిరిలోని శ్రీ లక్ష్మీనరసింహాలయం శిథిలమవడంతో ప్రస్తుతం
ఈ ప్రదేశాన్ని లక్ష్మీనారాయణ ఆలయంగా తీర్చిదిద్దారు. ఇక్కడ ఉండే పరకామణితోపాటు వృత్తాకారపు బండ ఉంటుంది. శిథిలాయంలోని బండ రాగుల రాయిలా ఉంటుంది. అన్నమయ్య కాలం నాటికి ఈ ఆలయం ఉండేది.

Alipiri is one of two ways to reach Tirumala on foot, and it was until recently the only one in modern times. Srivari Mettu, about 20 km away, is the original one that was renovated and brought back to use in 2008.Alipiri is the longer route with 3550 steps, Srivari Mettu is shorter with 2388 steps.
