The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has applied for arrest warrants against top Israeli and Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes.

Iranian President Raisi dies with other occupants of helicopter

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi suffered a "hard landing" on Sunday, Iranian state television reported, without immediately elaborating.

According to Tehran Times, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was also present in the helicopter.

Raisi was traveling in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. State TV described the area of the incident happening as being near Jolfa, a city on the border with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 375 miles northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, reaffirming that Washington does not support a major military ground operation by Israel in Rafah, the State Department has said.

Earlier we reported that Shoukry told his counterpart that continued Israeli military operations in Gaza, and especially in Rafah, near the Strip’s border with Egypt, have “grave security risks”.

The Israeli government has issued its first official remarks on Hamas’s response to a possible truce deal, stating that the group’s comments are being studied by all parties involved in the mediation process, but offering few details.

Like the New York Times, the AP report notes that CIA director Bill Burns is expected to discuss the contours of the emerging agreement when he meets on Sunday in France with David Barnea, the head of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel for talks centered on the hostage negotiations.
