Описание к видео Feels Like Kampong Spirit: Modern Houses Built For Tropical Living | Dream Spaces | CNA Documentary

Long before Singapore become known as an air-conditioned nation, its inhabitants lived in houses that were sensibly built for the tropical climate.

One of the oldest examples is the kampong house, an indigenous building type with features such as large roofs and open spaces to provide shade and air circulation. Typically made out of wood, such houses also existed in open compounds that encouraged a communal way of living. This form of tropical living gave way to development when Singapore modernised, but has returned in new forms amidst the growing climate crisis. Take a look at three contemporary homes — The Sensible House, House at Braddell and Fade to Green — inspired by the traditional kampong house typology to offer a more sustainable way of living with the tropics.
