The Putrid Pride of Gruntilda -- Designing For Vanity

Designing For is a series which looks at one specific level, character, or idea in gaming and breaks down the central theme to that element to figure out what it's, well, designing for! In this episode, we celebrate 25 years of Banjo-Kazooie by looking into its main villain, Gruntilda Winkybunion. A simple character on the surface, Grunty has proven to be an incredibly enduring bad guy due to her devotion to her own vanity, and her selfishness and pride allow her to thrive as the central pillar that all of Banjo's personality can revolve around.
