Sushmita Sen won the Miss Universe 1994 pageant, after previously winning Femina Miss India at age 18. She is the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title. She made headlines when she announced as a 24-year-old woman that she would be adopting a girl child. Many questioned her decision but she went on and did what she felt was right amidst rigid societal norms and unclear adoption laws. Sushmita says it was the best decision she ever made. Sushmita is currently seen in the OTT drama series - Taali, where she is playing the lead role of the transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant.
Here she talks about adoption, journey to single motherhood and about changing the world one thought at a time.
