Fred Warner Film Breakdown #2:

'Coaching Points'

Undercut - Once the LB Settles at the Top of their Drop & they Read the QB’s Eyes / Route in time, it is Possible to Jump the Pass & Cross the Face of the WR for an Interception. It is Important to Move in STRAIGHT LINES when Breaking on the Ball DO NOT ROUND your Cut. Rounding a cut allows the WR to Get In Front of the Linebacker for the Completion.

Block Defeat:

(PUSH-PULL) Use this Move when a Blocker Makes Contact & is Able to Grab Cloth. Give Up a Little Ground & Allow the Blocker to Lean into you. As Soon as They Do this, Use their Over Extended Leverage to Sling Shot yourself Forward.

(REDUCE)
The LB Must use Peripheral Vision to Spot a Blocker who is Loaded up on their Approach and Looking to Lunge. Use their Over-Eagerness Against them & Time Up the Slip. Be Careful if Not Timed Properly you May End Up as a Pancake. Be sure to Drop Pad Level & Turn your Shoulders to the Sideline, also Brace for Contact & Maintain Balance.

Peanut Punch - When Wrapping Up for a Tackle, Use 1 Arm to Punch the Ball Out & the Other to Secure the Tackle. Even if The LB Makes Contact with the Football, After Attempting a Punch it Is Important to Secure the Tackle with the Hand used to Punch too.

Over the Top - The LB must Keep their Depth to Avoid Getting Caught Up in the Trash. Stay Square to the LOS for as Long as Possible or Until the RB Changes Gears. Hand Fight & Cross the Face of the Offensive Blocker who is Working Up to You. Mirror the Ball Carrier!!!

Underneath - If the Climbing O-lineman is too Aggressive as they Work to the Second Level, Bypass them & Make the Play. Plant your Foot in the Ground & Work Up Downhill and then Regain Leverage on the Ball.

Outside Concept - Inside Out Path & Trail Position

Keep Inside Out Leverage on the Ball Carrier by being in a "TRAIL POSITION”. If the Ball Carrier Cuts back they will Run Right Into the LB. Force Him to the Sideline or Another Defender. LB’s Must be Able to RUN!!! Lateral Movement & Sideline to Sideline Speed is Essential.
