Xholobeni community fights to protect land

It's a David and Goliath story and there is no end in sight for the Xholobeni community in the Eastern Cape's Mbizana area.

For more than twenty years, the community has been fighting to protect their coastal land from oil and gas exploration, as well as proposed titanium mining.

They say they've only known humiliation, harassment and repeated violations of their human rights, as they, like many other mineral-rich communities, try to fend off private sector encroachment onto their land, with the collusion of some state officials.

Sometimes, at a huge cost to their safety.
