"Evil Woman" was written by Jeff Lynne and recorded for ELO'S fifth album issued in 1975 entitled "Face The Music". It took all of thirty minutes to write, according to Lynne and was the quickest he had ever written. It was tagged on to the album as a filler track, to complete the album length. Jeff even referenced his idols, The Beatles "Fixing A Hole" with the lyric "there's a hole in my head where the rain comes in".

Critics were applauding the effort with Billboard leading the pack saying that the use of the title as a hook and critic Michael Gallucci rated it ELO's third best song with it "old school strings and new school keyboards backing a funky dance floor beat that drives the song all the way to pop glory". The song was their first worldwide hit and went Top 10 in just about every market.
