From decades of supply dependence on foreign players to now bagging an export contract, Indian artillery has indeed come a long way. Kalyani Strategic Systems, a subsidiary of Bharat Forge Limited, has announced that it has bagged an order worth $155.5 million (about Rs 1,270 crore) for export of its 155mm, 39 calibre truck-mounted artillery guns.

The deal is being seen as a significant step towards India achieving its defence export target of $5 billion (Rs 40,792 crore) by 2025. Recently, defence ministry officials said India had achieved exports of defence items and technology worth a record Rs 13,000 crore in 2021-22, which was likely to increase to Rs 17,000 crore in 2022-23. Defence minister Rajnath Singh has said that under the NDA government, defence exports worth over Rs 30,000 crore had been secured since 2014.
