Bumi is the latest orphan orangutan to be released into the wild this year! 🦧

Our field team have certainly been busy! Following the recent releases of Pegi and Okto, Bumi is the third young orangutan to graduate from our soft-release programme and venture out into the Lamanadau Wildlife Reserve on his own.

Bumi's successful release into the wild is a far cry from when he was rescued in 2017 at just three years of age. He was being kept in a nearby village as a pet and on his rescue Bumi was discovered with a number of gun pellets lodged in his skin. Since then, he has made great progress with his forest skills, so much so that he was ready to be independent in the wild!

Our forest monitoring team will continue to watch out for Bumi following his release. To give great apes like him a second chance of survival in the wild fills us with an immense sense of pride!
