From 2141 to 2326 + GM norm in one tournament - 13-year-old Whizzkid from Assam - Mayank Chakraborty

Mayank Chakraborty, born in 2009, is one of the biggest talents of North East India. The youngster living in Guwahati, Assam, is the champion of North East India in all formats - classical, rapid and blitz. Mayank is also the current under-17 national champion. He won the same title in 2022 as well.

At the Maharashtra GM Open 2023, Mayank performed absolutely brilliantly. Starting off with a rating of 2141 he managed to beat IMs Nubairshah Shaikh, Nitish Belurkar and GMs Vladimir Burmakin and Alexei Fedorov. This helped him not only to gain 185 Elo points and score his maiden IM norm, but the boy went one step ahead and scored his maiden GM norm as well. He has pumped up his rating from 2141 to 2326.
