PWHL New York Captain Micah Zandee-Hart On The Impact Of A Pro Women's League

When Micah Zandee-Hart first tied on a pair of skates at the age of the 4 in Victoria, BC, she wanted to be like her older brother. When she began playing organized hockey with the Peninsula Minor Hockey association, she had to play with the boys since there was no female league on the Island. Micah knew there was no path to professional hockey laid out for her, so she forged her own, becoming the first BC born player to make Canada’s Women’s Olympic team. Micah has added another honour to her impressive resume, that includes an Olympic gold in Beijing and a gold medal at the 2014 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, she has become the first Canadian player to sign cross-border in the PWHL, and the first-ever captain of the New York PWHL team. Making history becomes a by-product of her fierce will, dogged determination, elite skill and a never-say-never attitude. A born leader and an elite player, Micah is a shining example for other young women from Victoria, proving that when there’s no path in front of you, you carve your own.
