Nowruz - The Tale of Two Parsi New Years | Significance & History | UPSC By

The Parsi New Year, also known as Nowruz, is the day that marks the beginning of spring and the renewal of nature. It is celebrated by different cultures and communities around the world, including India. In India, the auspicious day falls between July and August every year.

The word Nowruz is made up of two Persian words, ‘Now’, which means new and ‘Roz’, which means day. The tradition of celebrating Parsi New Year is believed to have been observed by Iranians and Zoroastrians for the past 3,000 years. The festival is based on the Iranian Solar Hijri calendar.
