An easy step-by-step guide to setup your own container garden for your tomato or pepper plants. I have had very good results growing tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and a variety of herbs in 5 gallon containers.

For first time gardeners trying this, I recommend you start small. Get 4 - 5 gallon buckets.

1. Drill a 1/2" hole on the side of the bucket about 2" from the bottom.

2. Fill the bottom with woodchips. Fill it slightly above the drain hole.

3. Fill with about 1-2 shovel full of your 50/50 (potting soil / peat moss) mix.

4. add a 1/4 cup of Vigoro tomatoe and vegetable time release granules and a 1/4 cup of garden lime. Mix it into the soil already in your bucket.

5. Add more of your 50/50 mix. Fill to about 3-4" from the top rim of your bucket.

6. Add 1/4 cup of Vigoro tomato and vegetable food granules along with a 1/4 cup of garden lime.Mix thoroughly into your soil.

7. Dig a 4.6" hole and plant your tomatoe plant into the bucket. It is OK to bury the stem of the tomato plant up to its first set of leaves.

8. add a layer of mulch on the top to help retain soil moisture and then water until water drains out of holeat a steady stream.

Please note to place your bucket in a location where it will receive a minimum of 6 hours or more of sunlight
