Discipleship 101: THREE ROLES OF A DISCIPLE OF JESUS (Part 2)

Jeremiah 17.9 tells us, "The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it?" Emotions can be unreliable. They must be examined and verified. Unfortunately, a lot of people assess their relationship based only on how "close" they feel to God. We are not saying that emotions are not useful or never accurate, just that they are often misleading, so you must verify them.

One way you can verify your emotions while evaluating how your walk with God is by what we call The Three Measures of Devotion. As a disciple of Jesus, we are called to be learners, followers, and messengers. When we ask ourselves how we are doing in these three roles, we get a more accurate picture of how serious we take Jesus, our understanding, and our commitment to Jesus' mission.
