BFI at Home | Romeo & Juliet with Josh O’Connor, Jessie Buckley, Lucian Msamati and Simon Godwin

Описание к видео BFI at Home | Romeo & Juliet with Josh O’Connor, Jessie Buckley, Lucian Msamati and Simon Godwin

Creating a new filmed version of Romeo & Juliet for television, the National Theatre temporarily transformed the vast stage spaces of its Lyttelton theatre into a film studio to capture Shakespeare’s timeless play for a new generation of audiences. This is the first time an original production for screen has been created in its South Bank home.

Directed by NT Associate Simon Godwin (Antony and Cleopatra, Twelfth Night) and adapted for screen by Emily Burns, the cast includes Jessie Buckley (Chernobyl, Judy) and Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country, The Crown) as the star-crossed lovers.

Reconceived for the screen, this new 90-minute version involved a collaborative team of theatre and film experts, bringing to life the remarkable backstage spaces of the National Theatre to make Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy sing in an entirely new way. Join us as we discuss this whole new fascinating hybrid form of film and theatre.

Romeo & Juliet will premiere on Sky Arts in the UK on 4th April at 9pm (Freeview channel 11 and Freesat 147) and PBS in the US on 23rd April (check local listings).
