Hindi isinasantabi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines ang posibilidad na may umaligid na mga barko ng China habang nagsasagawa ng pagsasanay sa bahagi ng West Philippine Sea.

Ayon sa AFP, malapit sa venue ng Balikatan ang mga mga itinayong istruktura ng China kaya hindi malayong subukan ng mga itong mag-obserba sa mga mangyayari sa pagsasanay.
