3 Military Bands around Buckingham Palace 12 May 2024

Описание к видео 3 Military Bands around Buckingham Palace 12 May 2024

The Band and Bugles of The Rifles and the Band of the Welsh Guards providing musical support for Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace on 12 May 2024. As an unexpected bonus, there was also another event immediately afterwards which unfortunately I hadn't found out about before I went – the Coldstream Guards "Black Sunday" (their annual remembrance day). My attempts to film parts of that were therefore very "ad hoc" and don't do it proper justice, but luckily there are a large number of very good videos by other uploaders.
It was a sunny and very hot day with very little wind but abundant crowds.
00:00 The Band and Bugles of The Rifles, having left Friary Court at St James Palace and come out of Marlborough Road, marching along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace, leading a detachment of the Old Guard, playing "The Lines of Torres Vedras" and then "The Prince Consort's Own". The loud voice from the beginning is a nearby tour guide explaining to his tour group their next movements.
04:01 The Band of the Welsh Guards, having left Wellington Barracks, marching up Spur Road and approaching Buckingham Palace, leading the New Guard, playing "Men of Wales" (Archie Ellis), and then "Washington Grays" (C.S.Grafulla). There's a bass-trombone player from the Band of the Coldstream Guards nearest the camera, with red plume.
06:05 The Band of the Welsh Guards marching along The Mall and turning into Marlborough Road as they lead a detachment of the New Guard towards St James Palace, playing "The Purple Pageant" (Karl King) and then starting "The Thin Red Line" (Kenneth Alford).
09:59 When I walked back to Wellington Barracks hoping to film the Band of the Welsh Guards returning, I was most surprised to see this – the Band of the Coldstream Guards, troops and veterans forming-up for what I later realised was their "Black Sunday" event.
10:33 The Band of the Welsh Guards marching back along Spur Road and into Wellington Barracks. The shouting by the policeman was not at me!
12:10 The Coldstream Guards band, troops and veterans leaving Wellington Barracks to march along Birdcage Walk towards Horse Guards Parade for their Black Sunday event. The music is "Standard of St George" (Kenneth Alford). Unfortunately I was trapped in the crowd, on the wrong side of the exit road.
13:17 The Coldstream Guards Black Sunday event on Horse Guards Parade, viewed from St James's Park with the Guards Memorial in the foreground. The last part of "The Last Post" (bugle call) is being played, followed by the silence.
14:12 The Coldstream Guards Black Sunday event on Horse Guards Parade, viewed from St James's Park with the Guards Memorial in the foreground. The National Anthem is being played by the Band.
14:54 Viewed from St James's Park, the Band of the Coldstream Guards, leading the troops and veterans, marching back down Horse Guards Road towards Birdcage Walk on their way to Wellington Barracks. The pieces being played are "The Old Grey Mare" and then "Radetzky March" (J.Strauss).
18:30 From within St James's Park, an opportunistic distance clip of the Band of the Coldstream Guards, leading the troops and veterans, marching back down Birdcage Walk on their way to Wellington Barracks, playing "The ADJ" (James Scott).
