The International Court of Justice (ICJ) heard arguments regarding South Africa's request for additional emergency measures in response to Israel's offensive on Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where over one million displaced Palestinians sought shelter during the conflict. According to human rights lawyer Geoffrey Nice, South Africa's statements at the ICJ hearing marked a significant shift, asserting that Israel's actions demonstrate "genocidal intent" towards Gaza. Initially adopting a softer stance due to Hamas attacks, South Africa now alleges that Israel aims to destroy Gaza and its people.
