Preserving 150 lbs of POTATOES! [Freezing, Canning, and Freeze Drying]

Описание к видео Preserving 150 lbs of POTATOES! [Freezing, Canning, and Freeze Drying]

I recently harvested 150 lbs of potatoes and now I've got to do something with them! We don't have a root cellar and fresh potatoes will only last a few months here for me so I choose other methods of storage.

Canned Potatoes are a favorite in our home. Super convenient to throw in soups, stews or casseroles and great fried up! They have a recommended shelf life of 2 years but I'm sure they will last much longer.

If you aren't up to canning then try freezing. Freezer space is limited here so I only use this method for a small amounts of potatoes. Super simple, peel, prepare as desired, blanch and freeze in freezer bags or containers. You can even prepare mashed potatoes and freeze them up too! I try to use up frozen potatoes within 1 year.

Its so nice to have prepared sides and meals to pull out when you are pressed for time!

Our freeze dryer comes in handy for preserving potatoes long term. Freeze dried food can last anywhere from 10 - 30 years if stored properly.

I like utilizing multiple methods of preservation to ensure we have many layers of food storage available.
