Whenever we talk about time in India in reference to the international time then we denote it as gmt+5:30 because india's central meridian is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of the prime meridian which passes through the Greenwich village of London and that is why gmt is calles greenwich mean time. in present time GMT is called as UTC i.e. universal time code or coordinated universal time.
